Tiny and detailed, leather mosaic work drops me into minutia while allowing the vastness of choice to prevail, as I attempt to honour the leather's origins.

LEATHER
MOSAICS

What began as a way to keep my hands busy and my heart soothed during a time of grieving, cutting and placing leather slivers into a small space to depict a landscape became a gift to myself. Over the years, the hours I stole away to get lost in this endeavour melted into non-time. Non-time where flow was all I felt. The stress and worries of life fell away and I was one with the work. This medium is about commitment and patience and trust. I trust that as I work from a photo or a sketch the piece will help me find my way through the endless colour choosing and shape making. I trust that eventually, it’ll look like it was intended. Through this learning, I learn to trust myself as well.
